Prime Maxima: Warrior ~ Launch!

Hello everyone, this is Swarnava Banerjee (if that's a mouthful, call me either Neel or mythbuilder). I am the lead developer on Prime Maxima: Warrior. The ideas for the Prime Maxima anthology had been in my mind for quite some time and this year I finally decided to take the dive and make it a reality.

Prime Maxima is my love-hate letter to Final Fantasy, a game series that has for better or worse has helped shaped my interest in making games. This particular game comes from my love of Final Fantasy I - III which focused heavily on its systems and class design. They were also considerably more open world than their later counterparts allowing for a margin of error and experimentation that was quite interesting (if a bit frustrating) for the NES era.  My goal is to try and recapture that feeling with this anthology but also question the assumptions of Final Fantasy as a series. Besides Nasir Gebelli's sort of a hero of mine so I hope to live up to his caliber.

But Prime Maxima: Warrior is not over. Not by a long shot.

We are still lacking critical content, encounter balance is all over the place, level designs are don't quite fit an interest curve, necessary dialogue has yet to be written and oh the bugs. So many bugs. These issues stem from my inexperience and lack of resources which through the release of this game and the others in the anthology I hope to fix. The brilliant Isiah Brighton has been extremely helpful in figuring out solutions to some of the more high-scope elements of the game and some of the more tricky aspects of RPG Maker MV (an engine that I knew nothing about at the start of the year) but there are limits to how much two people can do (only 24 hours in a day, curse you Time!)

So, what is the plan going forward? Let's layout a roadmap:

  • Late May Build : Content Complete. Two new levels (Fugue Marshes, Tyrant Lab) will be added as well the Skill Learning system.
  • Late June Build : Asset Complete. Final art, UX, animations, SFX will be in the right places. Dialogue should be more or less locked in.
  • Late July Build  : Final Polish. Mac and Linux builds will be available. Achievements and Accessibility options will be included.

Prime Maxima: Warrior will launch for proper on August 8th, 2019.  Don't hold me to that. Anything can happen during development and since I am not doing this full time, there may be some delays. In addition, Isiah and I are going to start development of Prime Maxima: Monk (hot scoop!) starting in early May so our time will be divided between two games. I hope that you will stick around to see the game evolve and improve over the next few months.
