Strife of Cosmos - Version 1.1.0 is Out!
Hey everyone, it's been a while but today we are happy to finally to announce that Strife of Cosmos has been updated to Version 1.1.0! We have a format for these DevLogs now (thanks to our brilliant programmer Isiah), so here goes:
New this Update
Bug Fixes
- First Turn Instant Bug - Previously skipped your turn, now Instant abilities can be used on Turn 1 as intended.
- No Knockout Poison Bug - Poison had previously not been KO-ing both Allies and Enemies, it does now!
- Empty HP Gauge Bug - Visual Error where it looked as though Enemies under 7% HP had no HP at all, a buffer has been added to the drawn Gauge amount for clarity.
- Wave Sweep Issue Bug - Previously when a new Wave reinforced they got a full turn of attacks on the Party before Turn Order was calculated for the next round. Now that "turn" is effectively skipped meaning new Waves get a more "fair" lineup
- Zone 3 Varied Encounter Bug - Some folks reported this in and while we can replicate the bug we are still not sure what's causing it, so for now we have removed the Encounter from the Pool which seems to have prevented.
- Wider Scale Stability Fixes - Battle Start Softlock bug that some folks have reported should occur less now, but we are still tracking down the conditions for why it is happening at all. Might be solved by the time of the next Major update.
Minor Changes
- Changed Damage Formula for Energy Lance to slightly decrease effectiveness, make it more in line with a Resource Reward Finisher
- Increased Agility and Health of Beta-Sentry to improve Turn Order and survivability.
- Increased Health of Zone 3 Boss just a smidge so that there is potential for a Turn 8 transform (which causes some interesting dynamics)
- Changed Zone Start BGs to be a little bit more colourful, text colors on Zone Progress Bar have been changed to match
- Animation Speed has been increased just a smidge to keep the battles feeling fast. Some Skill Animation errors have also been fixed.
- Clear a Wave does not end the Turn for Turn Count purposes, that Turn carries over and Turn Order is recalculated
- Altered sequencing of Zone Action Events for Zones 2 and 3 to accommodate for new changes.
New Features
- Added 15 new Story Events! Story Events also randomize from a pool each run so expect to see some different outcomes.
What's Next
There are still some minor bugs in the game we know that are in the bug which we hope to tackle in a later update.
There will probably be another Minor update (Version 1.1.5) in late September that will rework some of the Bosses and fix up their lines (right now some are triggering on the wrong conditions). Some of the later parts of the game such as Act 2 content still need a lot more rigorous testing to make sure they are of the same level of experience as earlier parts. This update will also include some dynamic difficulty challenges for Act 2 where regular enemies may get #blessed by our favourite abomination from beyond the stars to screw over the Party :P
The last update for the year will be a Major one (Version 1.2.0) in early November roughly around the 1 Year Anniversary of Strife of Cosmos' release. This will have significant changes to the game such as implementing EXP and Cosma (currently, what's used for Full Recovery) as fluid resources and changing how you acquire Items in the game. Many players have requested having a Shop in the game to stock up on Items and we have thought of an angle which would be interesting and keep it in line with the pace of the game. Also look forward to Recovery and Shortcut Story Events which draw upon Items, Skills and knowledge from previous runs to propel you forward.
After that, it is a little up in the air what the future of this game will be. We do hope to bring it to other platforms eventually such as Steam and Android. If that does ever come to fruition we will likely take the time to get the resources to do an Enhanced Edition of the game adding a lot more content, better visuals and music and customization options so you can enjoy the game in your preferred manner.
Final Thoughts
It's been a long journey with Strife of Cosmos and we are really glad to see that it has an audience! As our first retail game release, this was a pivotal game for us and we are generally pretty happy with the work we have done on it barring some production errors that we have since found ways to overcome. As the designer on it, Strife of Cosmos holds a lot of meaning to me as I poured my heart and soul into developing it many months ago. Even as I play it now for build testing the game still fully embodies its core message and I am truly grateful for the many friends and opportunities it has afforded me since its release.
We hope to continue supporting the game so long as folks want to play, so let us know about your experiences playing the game and if you have any suggestions or bugs that fixing!
